“In a time of destruction, create something”
-Maxine Hong Kingston
I often come across fascinating (and sometimes counterintuitive) information in my work as a lawyer specializing in American public lands and wildlife. These topics nearly always intersect with climate matters, and they touch on human health and human rights too.
I explore themes like The beauty that was, and sometimes What could be again, and maybe How we can reframe crises as opportunities to expand who or what we love. And most definitely Everything is inextricably linked.
I find that most green issues are not as black-and-white as they may initially appear. I love to write about what I discover, delving beneath the oversimplified headlines of environmental concerns to uncover their nuances.
Coinciding with the transition into the second Trump administration, I started a new series called “Owl in America: Notes from an American environmentalist” that is my attempt to chronicle the impact of Trump on our natural world. Chronicle, yes, but also to bear witness. The first Trump administration was quite bad for the living planet, and I expect the second to be even worse. I’ll be keeping track. At the same time, I’m committed to sharing examples of regular people and local governments taking matters into their own hands, in defense of Gaia.
I look forward to sharing some of the wonders of our world with you. Welcome to Fearless Green!
